From March to July 2021 I did my graduation internship at Stage Gate 11 in a timeframe of 19 weeks. During, I wrote my thesis about the applicability of SG11's Delta R technology for academic research, from which I graduated from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences for the International Business & Languages programme.
Delta R for academic research
Hyperspectral imagers are often used in the academic market. As Stage Gate 11 is constantly developing their technology and looking for opportunities to operate in markets where they can be of added value, I researched the applicability of Delta R for academic research. In this insight, I will share with you what I found about UV hyperspectral imaging and where Delta R could potentially be of added value.
Classification
Its actual advantage is what is important to understand about Delta R. Based on qualitative research, I found that Delta R is very suitable for solving an academic’s classification problem. This has to do with the way how Delta R works, how it collects information and its accuracy. The Delta R Lab Scanner can therefore be of great value for academia with a classification problem.
Quality assurance
As I found that Delta R is capable of solving an academic’s classification problem, I looked at potential applications in this field. What I noticed during my research, is that there are many academics that, often together with partners, solve problems in the field of quality assurance. My hypothesis is that in areas like quality assurance, Delta R can be of added value for academia. With quality assurance, one can think of, for example, inspection of food, drinks, clothing, et cetera. In the end, tests have to be done at all time to prove an application works.
Other applications
Other than quality assurance, there might be several other fields in which Delta R can be of value. During my internship we managed to set up a collaboration between academics and forensics! Very interesting and valuable for deeper understanding of our technology and different applications.
General internship evaluation
Now, something else. Over the past months I have done my internship at Stage Gate 11, and I would like to shortly reflect on this period. I am very happy with the outcome of the internship: an 8.0 for my thesis and 8.5 for my thesis defense. However, I am even more grateful for the professional experience that I gained from the amazing Stage Gate 11 team. This team of enthusiasts gave me a great time. I felt comfortable with the company right from the beginning, and I really got the opportunity to develop myself as a young professional.
At Stage Gate 11, I could experiment with various ideas in a supportive atmosphere. It is a great place to develop yourself and the team is always willing to help with anything you need. If you consider doing an internship at SG11, do not hesitate any longer! I am very happy with my experience about the past months, and I am sure the company will do great in the future.
